Trouble "refreshing"

description

I'm having problems with the Refresh.

All the work items are imported again and appended below the previous import.

Can you tell what changes you made to the document between the first import and the refresh? Also are you using tables?

Rob,

No changes were made to the document. The scenario: I import, change one ticket (a text change in the description) and refresh.

I'm not using tables, but I'm pulling a hierarchy query using the hierarchy building block.

I am very sorry for taking so long to respond. Would it be possible for you to post screenshots of a small repro somewhere?

Thanks

Rob

I'm having similar issues

if i open a spec document, import a shared query work items and just hit refresh, i get a whole bunch unrelated items with a different layout than i have selected.
For example if i import using "Simple (Agile, CMMI) layout, after hitting refresh i get unrelated items with "Requirements Specification (Agile)" layout.

i have modified Simple Agile layout, by replacing description field with rich text field that supports html.

I think it's importing some other query used in the document before

Unfortunately, once a query has been used once with a document, it will always be associated with that document. One of the things I wanted to do, but never got round to, was to allow the old queries to be deleted.

I have several issues with the refresh function:
  1. If I import a query in a complex document when refreshing, it inserts the results where the caret is positioned in the document instead of refreshing the existing ones.
  2. If I modify the query in TFS, the refresh doesn't take into account the modifications of the query nor upon refresh, neither if I try a new Import. I tried to close word, same thing.
Beside that, I am trying to use the add-in to generate a complex requirements document.
If I make a mistake and select the wrong query, my document is no more usable because I cannot delete it.
This feature is, I think a must have for this add-in to be used in profressional documents.

Regarding number 1, I can't remember now, but I seem to recall that there were circumstance where it might do this, particularly if you have moved the items around in your document after they were inserted by the addin.

Number 2 is by design.

I agree with your final comment, something I have always wanted to add is the ability to view/edit/remove the queries. Unfortunately, finding the time to do this is a problem... I am hoping we will be able to publish the source code, which will then allow others to change and enhance the tool.
